This cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) is a regular visitor to where I live and uses this white post as a perch and drying out spot. Its heavier build and stunning green eye with no feathers surrounding it differentiates it from the similar looking shag.

I'm a UK based freelance photographer who particularly likes old things, churches, industrial heritage, old machinery . . . and then by contrast like nature and wildlife too. I'm a dedicated tripod geek - my camera very rarely gets used 'off tripod' as many of my shots are taken in low light or require large DOF. Sometimes I shoot an image for use 'as is' - but I also like to get creative so shoot with the intention of combining multiple exposures - another great reason for being on the tripod. Just about the only thing you won't see in my portfolio are people.
