Whilst on land camouflage is an attempt to blend in with your surroundings on sea confusing 'Dazzle' paint was tried. The idea was the whacky shapes and colours caused confusion for the gun aimers. This ship - Edmund Gardner was a pilot vessel and was painted like this by Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez as a modern art piece. These days of course the computers do not care what colour the target is.

I'm a UK based freelance photographer who particularly likes old things, churches, industrial heritage, old machinery . . . and then by contrast like nature and wildlife too. I'm a dedicated tripod geek - my camera very rarely gets used 'off tripod' as many of my shots are taken in low light or require large DOF. Sometimes I shoot an image for use 'as is' - but I also like to get creative so shoot with the intention of combining multiple exposures - another great reason for being on the tripod. Just about the only thing you won't see in my portfolio are people.
