D5830 is a class 31 locomotive that was built in 1962 and saw various modifications including one to provide electrical power for heating passenger carriages (up until then it carried a steam generator to provide heat) whilst in service. Withdrawn from BR in 1996 and saw several changes of ownership before becoming part of Great Central Railways rolling stock in 1999.
I'm a UK based freelance photographer who particularly likes old things, churches, industrial heritage, old machinery . . . and then by contrast like nature and wildlife too. I'm a dedicated tripod geek - my camera very rarely gets used 'off tripod' as many of my shots are taken in low light or require large DOF. Sometimes I shoot an image for use 'as is' - but I also like to get creative so shoot with the intention of combining multiple exposures - another great reason for being on the tripod. Just about the only thing you won't see in my portfolio are people.
