Description
A liver bird - this is the one that looks inland - atop the Royal Liver Assurance building, Liverpool. According to popular legend, they are a male and female pair, the female looking out to sea, (watching for the seamen to return safely home) whilst the male looks towards the city (making sure the pubs are open). Probably based on the Cormorant which can still be seen in and around the docks the sculptures were designed by Carl Bernard Bartels and built by the Bromsgrove Guild.
